Art Restoration with Dave Terry

One of our large oil paintings is from Saint Vincent’s orphanage here in Columbus. This painting was painted in the 1880s and hung in the orphanage up until 2005 when the museum removed it before the building was demolished. After being in our collection for many years this painting is now going through the restoration process. The painting will be cleaned, the holes will be patched then will be filled and the paint will be touched up. The frame will also be leaving to be completely restored and gold leafed.

The really exciting news is that on select Fridays between 10:00 am – 2:00 pm the restorer, Dave Terry, will be here restoring this piece in our museum. Visit us while he is here to watch the process and interact with Dave.

About Dave Terry

Dave Terry is a native of Columbus, Ohio. He is a self-taught painter and artist, and Columbus’ renowned art restorer of thirty-nine years. He has been a staple of the fine art community in Ohio, not only through his expert restoration, but through his experience as a collector, appraiser, auctioneer and philanthropist.

He is a lover of all art forms and pushes to experiment and develop through creating in all mediums including sculpture and monotypes. It is his initial love of paint and color, however, which has enabled him to develop his distinctive painting style, capturing the beauty in landscapes throughout Ohio, Indiana, Maine, Colorado and the Midwest. He has evolved over the years from a more illustrative feel to one that is still representational but less defined.
